Compassion in Action: A Day of Devotion and Kindness on Navratri with Plant A Smile Campaign

As the seventh day of Navratri arrives, we honor *Maa Kalaratri*, the fierce goddess known for her powerful protection and unyielding strength. In her spirit, this day is a reminder that compassion, like her fierce energy, can protect, heal, and nurture the world around us. At LIS, we marked this sacred day by translating devotion into action through our ongoing *’Plant a Smile’ campaign*.

### Reflecting Maa Kalaratri’s Fierce Protection Through Compassion: Maa Kalaratri, revered for her ability to vanquish evil and safeguard the innocent, inspires us to extend our protection to all living beings. On this day, our students and faculty came together to embody her essence through acts of kindness and care for animals. At the *Gaushala*, we took important steps to ensure the safety and health of the cows, the gentle creatures that are central to rural life. Our team distributed radium belts to 150 cows—a small but significant gesture to keep them safe during the night, reducing the risk of accidents. These radium belts will make the cows visible after dark, preventing mishaps and allowing them to roam freely without danger. This simple act of compassion mirrors Maa Kalaratri’s protective nature, safeguarding the vulnerable with our care.

### Nurturing Health: Donating Medicines for Healing:In addition to enhancing the safety of the cows, the LIS community also contributed to their health and well-being by **donating essential medicines**. These medicines, which will be used to treat common illnesses and diseases in cows, are a crucial resource for ensuring that these animals receive the care they deserve.By supporting their physical health, we are also nurturing the bond between humans and animals, creating a space where all living beings can thrive. This act of healing reflects Maa Kalaratri’s role as both a fierce protector and a nurturer, who destroys negativity and fosters positive growth in those she shields.

### A Unified Effort for Compassion: The strength of the *’Plant a Smile’* campaign lies in the collective efforts of our students and faculty. By working together, we have not only made a tangible difference in the lives of these animals but also instilled in our students a deeper understanding of the importance of empathy and responsibility. This campaign is more than just an event; it’s an ongoing lesson in how even small actions can ripple outwards, creating a safer, more compassionate world for all beings.

### Spreading Love, Protection, and Healing:As we worship Maa Kalaratri, let us reflect on the ways we can bring her protective spirit into our everyday lives. Whether through acts of kindness towards animals, helping those in need, or standing up for what is right, each of us has the power to spread love and care.At LIS, we are proud to be part of a movement that seeks to plant smiles in the world—by taking steps to protect, nurture, and heal. As Navratri progresses, may we continue to be inspired by the strength of Maa Kalaratri, and let our actions be a reflection of her fierce compassion for all living beings.
